Over the 8 weeks we will explore the art form of art journaling, studying many different styles and techniques while working every week in our sketchbook journals. Each week we will look at a different style of art journaling and then create a page using the elements of that style. Through the class Cathy will introduce you to techniques like image transfers, paint layering, collage, drawing, doodling, stamping, calligraphy, and many other techniques. We will also prepare pages to be used during non-class time and there will be challenges provided at the end of each week for those would like to continue working during the week with their art journals.

Discover your drawing (and seeing) style

    Wednesday evenings (7–9:00 pm)
    8 weeks September 18th — November 13th
$200 plus GST (includes all supplies)
    Ages: 16+

The word discover goes back to Latin dis- and cooperire, meaning 'to remove the covering; completely uncover.' By 1553, it was used to mean 'seeing or gaining knowledge of something previously unknown' and 'finding out; bringing to light.' You discover ('uncover') something that is already there, something that has existed but is generally unknown - but you invent something that has never existed before.

One of the most important components of learning to draw well has to do with “seeing”. Over the 8 weeks you will discover how to draw in this class as Cathy helps you understand what you see, and shows you how to see it in the way you need to, so that you can draw it. She will also guide you to uncover your own drawing style through exploring what drawing styles you are attracted to. We will be experimenting with a lot of different techniques and materials as well. This class is anyone who would love to draw, especially those who think they just cannot draw but would like to.
