February 1st – March 25th

Visual Journaling Night — Monday evenings (7-9 pm) beginning February 1st

In this 8-week class we will explore the foundations and structures behind visual journaling, while learning many techniques including transfers, paint layering, photography and collage. Through prompts and challenges we will create one of kind, beautiful, heartfelt pages. Throughout the class there will also be discussions and exercises in colour theory, visual composition and drawing. This class is open to any skill level; the most important requirement needed is desire to play.

8 week registered class (Pre-registration is necessary) $220. for 8 weeks of classes plus GST (includes all supplies except your own journal) If you have any questions about what kind of journal to bring please ask. Upon registration Cathy will give you a list of personal things (ie. Photographs that you might want to bring to help personalize your book even more)

Altered Memories Art Journal — Wednesday evenings (7-9 pm) beginning February 3rd

Imagine having a beautiful altered art journal that contains the memories that have shaped you into who you are now. This 8-week class will begin with the basic foundations of book altering and then take you into a world of altering that you haven’t been before. Our memories (as clear as they are) take on a ghosty, foggy quality in our minds, and we will learn to capture that essence with layering—paint, collage, photography and text. Over the 8 weeks we will record the things we remember in our lives, from little snippets of conversations to the colour of our favourite dress we once had. There will be many advanced painting and collage techniques taught in this class as well as discussions on understanding basic composition, colour theory and the emotions that colour can evoke. This class is open to any skill level; the most important requirement needed is desire to play.

Guided Art Studio for Kids – Thursday after school (3:00–4:30 pm) beginning February 4th (age 7-11)

This is a class filled with creative play, painting techniques, drawing and discussions about art and the purpose of the artist. In this session we will take a further step in the techniques and ideas behind visual/sketchbook journaling, hopefully setting a foundation and development of a lifelong creative habit. Each child will receive a hard cover sketchbook at the start of the class and will be required to bring it to class each week. No “homework” will be assigned but if they would like to draw in it during the week at home, prompts will be given to help come up with ideas of what they can do.
